Alaska

I guess this year is the year of the Salmon for the Lalor family. Recently my brother, Chad, and father went to Alaska.

While in Alaska, they were able to slay some huge Salmon along one of the many Alaskan rivers.

Chad was kind enough to share some of his fishing pictures.

Enjoy!

Eureka

This past July Ali and I made our way back to Eureka, CA. We were there to celebrate the fourth and visit with family, but the main reason we were there was to catch Salmon.

Brad took Ali and me out on the rough ocean early in the morning. Ali’s pregnancy has been puck free until this rocky boat ride. After we wiped up the puck off the deck of the boat, we landed some monstrous salmon. I was able to catch two 25+ lbs. King Salmon, while Brad and Ali caught a few Kings. These fish fought so hard my arm muscles were sore for a week.

We caught our limit in about two hours! We immediately took the fish home and vacuum packed and put them in the fridge. So now, I have a freezer full of wild King Salmon. We also barbecued some of the Salmon that night and it tasted amazing!

This was an amazing fishing trip for me. The only downside of the trip was breaking Brad’s net and Randall’s rod. Haha. I told Brad he could sell his half of the Salmon to replace his net. He did not think that was a good idea. Brad was able to scrounge up a few dollars to buy a new net for next year. What a guy!

Fish on!

Middle Provo with Nate

My buddy Nate and I went fishing on the Provo River this weekend. The weather was finally warm. We made our way up to the middle Provo to find about a million other fly fisherman along the river. No problem though, we just had to seek out a few secluded holes. Within the first 30 minutes I caught a small rainbow trout and Nate caught a white fish. Both fishes were caught on midge emerger patterns.

Later I took us to one of my favorite spots on the middle Provo, near the dam. I checked under a few rocks to see what the fish may be eating, and I found a few small green midges. I did my best to 'match the hatch.' After some time I landed a long brown trout! It was quite the fight!

Overall we certainly would have liked more fish, but it was such a beautiful day out on the river. Nate and I had a great time, and we will certainly be back on the Provo River soon. Fish on.

First Fish of the Year

I went fishing yesterday for the first time this season. Ali and her sister, Kelli, rode their bikes for a couple of hours in the Canyon, while I fished near Vivian Park. The water was high and very cold. I fished for about two hours and caught one brown trout. It was so nice to get out in the beautiful nature of the Provo Canyon. I'm excited for the weather to warm up, so my feet don't freeze again. I am hoping to make several fly fishing trips this summer. Right now I have plans to fish in Mexico, Idaho, California, Lower Provo River, Middle Provo River, and Fish Creek. All this fishing should make for a great summer. Stay tune!

My Recent Experiences

To preserve my wonderful fishing memories, and in conjunction with a project for school, I am starting this blog. This will be a great way to document all of my fishing adventures, tips, and knowledge. My most recent trip was to Idaho with my BYU fly fishing class. It was a blast. The river was very wide and intimidating. After a few hours of adjusting to the new conditions, I landed an awesome rainbow trout that fought for around ten minutes. Throughout that same day, I caught several fish, a few rainbows, and a few white fish. It was wonderful to fish on new waters. I plan on going back to Idaho soon when there is no rain. This is my first official blog post ever. AWESOME. Please note some of my best catches over the last year on the Provo River and in Henry's Fork. Thanks for visiting my blog!
